Jordan Shapiro is a versatile and committed music educator based in the Hudson Valley and NYC area, offering private lessons in piano, accordion, and bluegrass guitar for children, teens, and adults, as well as classroom instruction.

His individualized approach helps beginners build solid fundamentals and supports more advanced students in developing technique, improvisational creativity and fluency.

The focus is on showing them how to learn songs quickly—often in just a few weeks—by using simple chord-based methods that make the process fun and empowering.

  • Jordan has taught in a wide variety of school settings across the New York City region, serving diverse student populations through both group and individual instruction. His work spans public and private institutions, and he currently teaches general music at PS48 in Washington Heights, where he designs and leads lessons that integrate singing, rhythm, movement, and engaged listening.

    As a teaching artist, Jordan has led numerous workshops and classroom programs throughout NYC, bringing music, creativity, and ensemble skills to students from many different backgrounds. His experience also includes vocal coaching and ensemble leadership at the university level, most notably several years directing Columbia University’s bluegrass ensemble.

    Beyond the classroom, Jordan has taught adult group rock band classes at The Beacon Music Factory, organizing varied ensembles—often with different skill levels and musical backgrounds—into cohesive, high-energy bands that culminated in memorable performances.

    Drawing on years as a multi-genre performer in folk, traditional music, Americana, jazz, and rock, Jordan brings a broad musical perspective and a supportive, structured teaching style. Across all settings, he helps students grow through a balance of clear guidance and creative exploration, fostering confidence and lifelong musical enjoyment
